About Me

I know what it’s like to suffer from a chronic condition. I suffered from pain in my right hip that started out of the blue, and plagued me for 15 years before I finally received a diagnosis of osteoarthritis with bone death. That diagnosis would further lead to the need for a hip replacement at the age of 45 (way too young!).

It was during my recovery that I started asking “why” – why at the age of 45 was I dealing with osteoarthritis and a hip replacement??? My love of learning kicked into full gear and led me to researching and discovering Functional Medicine (FM) and a career change to be a National Board Certified, Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach.

Why work with me?

I’ve worked in the conventional medical system for ~15 years and have witnessed how chronic illness affects so many-- the multiple doctor/ER visits, prescription after prescription and how their symptoms were controlling their lives.

  • I’m a “tenacious bulldog” (at least that seems to be the description I hear most often from people) that will work hard to find answers.

  • My #1 & #2 character strengths are Honesty and Love of Learning (respectively) which I use daily – if we work together, we’ll learn yours too.

  • I have worked with lots of clients who have personally benefitted from making bio-individualized dietary & lifestyle changes.

  • I know the work it takes to make dietary & lifestyle changes because I made them myself, and continue to adjust them to work for me to this day.

    Fun Facts

  • I was a church pianist at the age of 15, and even filled in as organist for a year. One Sunday, I played the song a bit faster than the congregation must have expected. When the song was finished I heard the guy behind me say “whew!” The Bible tells us to “sing and make music from your heart to the Lord” (Eph 5:19), I was just doing my part, Lol!
  • My favorite hobby -- reading a health & wellness book (or 2) or researching more about health conditions and how functional medicine addresses them. I know, it seems lame, but I do enjoy it!!
  • My husband retired from the military after 31 years of service, and we moved to the UK. I have always wanted to live overseas. Despite my husband being in the military that long we never got an overseas assignment.
  • My second favorite hobby – photography. It’s very therapeutic and can help you focus on the little things around you that we often miss. Macro flower photography (up close shots of flowers), and travel photography from all of my husband and my travels are my favorite genre.
  • I don’t like to cook. I know what you’re thinking -- how do you make dietary lifestyle changes without liking to cook? I do it because my health is important to me and I got grandkids to spoil and give back, Lol!
  • I was a nurse for ~ 15 years and loved every minute of it. I loved the ER – it’s fast pace, trauma, variety, etc. It was the most rewarding for me. I knew that on someone’s worst day I (and the rest of the staff I worked with) gave it our all. I still miss it to this day!
